Guide To a Sailing Charter in The Caribbean Leeward Islands
Diversity - this is the main reason why sailing in Leeward Islands is "just the thing". You can enjoy different cultures at one trip. Leeward Islands are located in Lesser Antilles' northern region along the West Indies. It is a group of several islands which include:
- The American Virgin Islands (once colonized by the US) - The British Virgin Islands (UK) - Guadeloupe including its dependencies (France) - St. Eustatius (Netherlands) - Saba (Netherlands) - St. Martin (Netherlands and France) - Antigua and Barbuda (UK) - St. Kitts and Nevis (UK) - Montserrat (UK) - Anguilla (UK) - Dominica (UK) - Saint Bartholomew
For the sake of geographical convenience, the Isla Aves is included in the Leeward Islands. Because of the islands' various colonizers, they don't share each others culture and tradition. All of them is unique and diverse. The name "Leeward" was given to the group of islands because of the trade winds in the region that blows from northwest. These trade winds are almost constant all over the year and blows from 10 to 25 knots. Because of the Atlantic ocean, the strongest currents and largest waves are most often on the northeastern sides of the islands. The waters of the Caribbean Sea are normally much calmer and make sailing easier.
Cruising in Leeward Islands is best done from the months of November to July. This period is considered as the most perfect yacht season of the year. Conversely, the months of December to March is considered as the peak season wherein thousands of local and international sailors all around the world flock the Leewards and sail its brilliant coastal waters. Average air temperatures range from 22? to 30? C (72? to 86? F) and the water temperatures stay between 20? and 23? C (68? and 74? F). July to October is the least attractive months because this is when the hurricane season is very prevalent.
Leeward Islands have been considered as one of the most excellent sailing regions in the world. This is true especially along the areas of St. Martin, Antigua, and Dominica. At present, you will notice a lot of big cruises such as luxury motor yachts and Super Yachts while cruising in the Lewards.
One of the best starting points when cruising in Lewards is in Antigua. This place is a major yacht hub not only in the Lewards but also in the Caribbean. Antigua became famous when it became Great Britain's base in the West Indies during the 18th century. Antigua has remarkable beaches with fine white sand.
From Antigua's south, you can route your way to the majestic island of Guadeloupe. This island was dominated by the French during the Caribbean colonization years. Guadeloupe is distinct from the other Leewards because it is shape like a butterfly's wings. Sailing in Leeward Islands through Guadeloupe is one of the most thrilled experiences in the Caribbean. This is because it offers some of the finest beaches and the most flourishing forests in the world.

Hello from Sicily: My Italian Language Learning Adventure - Exploring the Beauty of Sicily and Sailing through the Eolian Islands
Sicily the name alone conjures up images of an exotic island, a mysterious and fascinating past. I have wanted to explore Italy for some time now since I had not been there for a long, long time, and when I was pondering which region of Italy to explore Sicily came to mind. I figured this island would offer a combination of fascinating history, rich culture, scenic beauty, and an opportunity for a wide variety of activities. One activity I definitely wanted to pursue was to combine my journey with language studies: my earlier language study trips to Havana and Cuernavaca, Mexico, not only got me closer to the Spanish language, but these on-site language learning experiences really allowed me to explore the culture from within.
